- Since you crossposted in to a zillion news groups I'll answer this one
- from an SGI perspective as I know it. If your running SGI Irix (Unix)
- every Sunday night a cron job kicks off "fsr" which will automatically
- defrag your disk for you. It is set to time out after 3 hours so if you
- have an extremely large or fragmented disk it may not finish. However, it
- keeps track of where it left off and continues next week. In the three
- years I've been installing SGI computers for Govt. projects I've never
- experienced your problem and our development source code libraries
- (working) are about 2GB. So my suggestion is get an SGI they take care of
- most common house keeping for you so you can spend your time marveling at
- the great graphics.
